In our last blog post, we talked about how to get your child prepared to maintain his braces and oral health during camp. But what happens when a bracket falls loose or a wire pops out while he’s away? First thing: do not worry. It might be uncomfortable for your child to deal with, but as long as it gets treated soon, then his braces will return to normal.
Call (or email) your orthodontist:
Let him or her know of the situation so he or she can provide an opinion to allay any fears. If possible, set up an appointment to repair any dislodged wires or broken brackets.
While a loose bracket or wire is not a life threatening emergency, quick action should be taken. The discomfort from the braces not sitting right can include:
- Trouble eating
- Trouble speaking
- Pinched cheek or tongue
- Trouble sleeping
At Manhattan Family Orthodontics, we are quick to accommodate emergency appointment for your child’s orthodontic appliances because we want them to achieve their best smile most comfortably and as soon as possible.
